You hit the nail on the head. I have severe astigmatism in one eye and slight astigmatism in the other. If I don't wear the proper contact lenses in each eye my vision is extremely blurry and eventually I will get a headache.

An Astigmatism is when your actual eyeball isn't shaped the right way. A normal eyeball should be round. A person with an Astigmatism has an eye that is more oblong, like a football. Hope I helped. :)

Astigmatism is fairly common. It means there are ripples, or hills and valleys on your cornea. This can be corrected with lenses or toric (weighted), contact lenses.
Astigmatism can be present in one or both eyes and in one or more areas on the cornea.
When you have an astigmatism, what you are looking at doesn't line up straight on your retina - it is off center which is why you see it as blurry.
Imagine your retina as the bullseye in the center of a target and what you are looking at as an arrow. With astigmatism your arrow is not hitting the bullseye but going off somewhere else on the target. Your brain tries to make sense of the images and you get a headache.

Yes. I can't find my glasses coz the kids and hubby keep moving them and the frames are too big for my face now anyway. So my head hurts all the time, especially if I read a lot. The astigmatism is only in one eye that is near sighted, the other is farsighted, so sometimes I catch myself holding the one eye so the other will read, unintentionally. I need a new pair of glasses.

I have that and myopia. With astigmatism when I'm tired I have even more difficulty reading everything is blurry and i get dizzy too. All that stopped when I got proper contacts and glasses.

astigmatism is simply a refractive error caused by the imperfect shape of your eyeball and is a VERY common component of most everyones eyeglass prescription! depending on the amount of astigmatism, yes,it can cause you to get dizzy if you're not wearing your glasses!

it is an unsymmetrical shape to the eye itself. i don't understand how that would cause blurred vision or headaches.
