That passage reminds me of Jesus' parable about a field planted with good seed. While everyone was sleeping an enemy sowed weeds in that field. So the wheat and the weeds sprouted, together. The owner's servants asked if they should pull the weeds out but were told, 'No, wait until the harvest. The harvesters will first collect the weeds and burn them, then the wheat will be put into my barn.' (Mat 13:24-30 & 36-43) Jesus added that the angels will 'harvest' the 'sons of the evil one' at 'the end of the age'.
So I think the answer to your Q is what Jesus said in conclusion: "He who has ears, let him hear." Those who listen to Jesus know what he is saying, and do what he says.

Friend, These verses pertains to anyone that is NOT in God's True Revelation,, so this implies to all that don't have the truth. God has 2 wills, One is his permissive will & the other is his Perfect will, Those that are in his permissive will will fall into these verse, & those who are doing his perfect will, does not fall into these verses, Because those that are doing God's perfect will, will see eye to eye Isa.52:8 & Ephesians 4:11-17 & Rev. 19:7 & Rev. 19:14 & also Matthew 25:1-14 You have 5 WISE VIRGINS, & 5 Foolish virgins, those 5 foolish virgins will be in Matt. 7:21-23

If you have been born again then you have nothing to worry about. Jesus is talking about all those people who say they know him, but really don't. There are many different examples, like a Preacher who is teaching that you can get to heaven just by being good. People who go to church every Sunday, read their Bible, do good works, but have never invited Jesus Christ into their lives.
So many Religions teach that Jesus was just a good teacher, or Prophet. Also today there are so many false Preachers on TV saying and doing things in the name of Jesus, they cast out Demons, lay hands on people to heal them, ask for money, all in the name of Jesus. They do all these things but don't Jesus Christ as Savior.
So as you read verses 22&23 you will see what Jesus has to say to all who confess to know him, but never, because they don't have him living in their hearts. No matter what you do in life, your good works just won't get it, YOU HAVE TO BE BORN AGAIN!!! Hope I helped.

Obey God by his commandments.
Funny enough many say they believe the bible but not the scriptures that show their errors.
Example, mixing pagan things with holy and going along with the spirit of the world. Christmas is putting Christ's name with an unclean pagan mid-winter celebration and branded Holy. Many in christendom will defend it even though the bible would condemn such a practice.
2Corithians 6:14-17 says what sharing does light have with darkness? what harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Quit touching the unclean thing.
I try more and more to do the will of the Father and not get involved in practices of worldly-minded christendom and worship only the one true God with like minded christians. I recognise that I cannot be pleasing to men and God so am prepared to take persecution for my stand against wrong and more than anything I study God's word and prove it to myself rather than just take someone's word for it.
I make improvements in my life that God wants me to take and I am prepared to even if it is a struggle to alter my ways and meditate on good spiritual things.
Being saved is not a fixed thing that you are and that is it, but your salvation is an ongoing proccess of continually obeying God and following Christ. You have to work on it everyday and as long as you keep doing so then you have the undeserved gift of salvation. Jesus said narrow is the gate and cramped the road leading off into life, and few are the ones finding it. You have to keep on the narrow path continually and that requires daily effort in obeying God.

Here we see the example of many who claimed to be full of good works,claimed they could work miracles and prophesied in his name BUT! we note here that Jesus NEVER knew them. These were those who thought they could get into heaven by their good works and Satan had decieved them into making them believing that the so called miracles they thought they were working was done in the power of the Holy Spirit whereas it was done by the power of Satan himself. We are warned in the Bible not to believe everything which appears to be a miracle as Satan can also perform them as well. In this instance,these people were never saved in the first place as Jesus said that he never knew them and therefore had not done Gods' will. What is the will of God? Jesus said it clearly "And this is the will of him that sent me that everyone who seeth the Son and believes on may have everlasting life and I will raise him up at the last day" Simple isn't it as Gods' will is that mankind believes on (trusts in) Jesus Christ as their Savior. I find a good definition of the word faith to be as follows;
F = forsaking
A = all
I = in self
T = trusting only in
H = him

You ensure it isn't you by hearing the word of Jesus and doing what he said. You show whose you are by the fruit you bear as it said in the earlier part of that verse.

Before I was soundly saved, I did not know the meaning of that verse. Now that I am born-again, I know the meaning and it makes me tremble in fear of what might have happened. I can't think of anything more terrible than hearing my Savior say, "I never knew you; depart from Me"
I think those of us who truly comprehend this verse give thanks daily that it isn't referring to us.
Thank you for the thought-provoking question, brother.
