i have purchased a 4 channel 160 watt car cd/radio and 2 X 5way 400 watt speakers.i've now realised i probably need an amplifier,is this so..would appreciate some advice.thanks.

first off your radio by itself does not put out 160 watts per channel. no way. maybe 40x4 but not 160x4. and its not even 40 watts, its more like 10. anyway, YES! even with a head unit, a amp will really make your spears sound the way they were meant to be heard. the bass by itself is a ton better, much deeper. definatly get a amp.

If you decide to get an amp, each channel must match the watts RMS of each speaker at the proper impedance (ohms). Most speakers are 4 ohms.

Yes i agree, better get a decent amp. It will boost up eveything and utilize your system
