I know a lot about Islam , but still miss a lot.
One thing I know for sure is that what we see everyday in the media could be anything other than "true" Islam, people who went to Muslim and Arab countries know that very well.
I sometimes wonder what the media makers think we are? Some idiots!
Now the end results is a complete mess of misunderstanding between tow ends (Islam and the west) with a daily hatered increasing between both sides...
My advice to you is that if you want to speak English , you cannot possibly learn it from Spanish!!
If you want to learn about Islam -to at least be able to judge things by your own mind - you better go and ask moderate Muslims about it , or do search from Islamic reliable resources , believe me you will be astonished how media can fool!!!

I think that Islam is a great religion. The media doesn't show that of course because not a lot of people knows the real islamic beliefs.

No, the media shows only the fanatics because that kinda of news sells.
And the reason people aren't educated on Islam is because that would suggest that a government is promoting one religion which is immoral.
I do know that Islam is in no way worse or better than other common religions, all have their good and bad sides.

Islam is a beautiful, peaceful and loving religion.The media is demonizing Islam at the behest of western politicians.The rapid growth of Islam shows no matter how much lies are spread about Islam the truth is plain to see.

The media covers news just hard news I know that yesterday in Bagdad Muslims killed over 125 of their own just because they believe somewhat differently than they do. I didn't see anything on the news about Christians killing Protestants because they have some conflicting beliefs or Orhodox Jews killing Reform Jews because they have some conflicts. Let us not forget before 9/11 Iran and Iraq were killing each other for the same reason. Read your bible and read what God told Hagar about her son IUshmael

The Islamic faith is a bit complicated and must be studied to be thoroughly understood. There are good parts to the faith and then again portions that are not good, in my opinion. Much of the faith comes from the Hebrew Talmud (which even Muslims do not know) however, there are parts that preach converting Infidels to Islam or they are to be killed. Jihad is mentioned and it is OK for a Muslim to kill during a Jihad and if he is killed then he goes directly to heaven where 72 virgins are waiting for him. This is a fact and not just nonsense written by journalists and people who seem to be making it up. There are definitely evil parts to the Koran and we Westerners must be wary of them. This is a religious war and if we are to win we must fight it as dirty as they. There are numerous moderate Muslims but the ones who are radical are driven by their religious belief that everyone must be a Muslim, or else. Are you ready to convert or die?

islam i know cannot be defined in the yahoo answers ...the HOLY QURAN explains it .read that and then come to question ur self that whether the media is going right or wrong ....but go and read the translation of the holy book and understand .

The Islam practiced in Malaysia is the proper way. They are becoming more moderate than the extremists that we hear about in the media.

Like most things, you usually only see a piece of the pie, but everyone is entitled to follow which ever religion they please.
The media seem only to happy with showing mostly bad and sad things, very rarely do you see a good news story in regards to any topic.

the only time i have seen the media portray some sort of image of the majority of the muslim population is when a cleric whom everyone wants to stand down says something completely ridiculous like women who dont wear the headscarf are meat and that mean are animals and cannot help raping them.
this happened in australia recently
