Oops I feel really dumb, it is the Arab's and I do understand that the Muslims do allow all nations to participate in their religion. I am just wondering if it began at the time of Ishmael's time and that Mohumad just grew it in to what we know today.

Arab is an ethnic term and Muslim is a religious term. Not all Arabs are Muslim and not all Muslims are Arabs.
An Arab is a person from Arabia.
A Muslim is one who accepts Islaam as his religion.

Both Isaac (pbuh) and Ismael (pbuh) were prophets.
Ishmael (pbuh) was the one who was offered for sacrifice.
Ishmael (pbuh) was the first born.

Both Abraham (pbuh) and Ishmael (pbuh) built the Kaa'ba in Makkah.
Ishmael (pbuh) lived in Makkah.
God ordered Abraham (pbuh) to take Ishmael (pbuh) and Hagar to Makkah before Ishmael (pbuh) was weaned.

Muhammed (pbuh) is a descendant of Abraham (pbuh) from his son Ishmael (pbuh).
Moses (pbuh) and Jesus (pbuh) are descendants of Abraham (pbuh) from his son Ishaac (pbuh).

Yes! The roots are the same.

Firstly, I would like to correct you statement. Islam is not a race, it is a religion, free for everyone to enter. There are Muslims in China, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, Japan, Turkey, the list goes on... Not all Muslims are Arabs, nor are all Arabs Muslims.

I'm assuming you are talking about the Islamic religion coming from Ishmael. Islam, Christianity, and Judaism are all called the three Abrahamic religions, so yes, they do have the same roots.

As a Muslim, I can say we believe in mostly the same prophets. And Muslims believe in the existence of the Injil (note: not Bible) and Torah (not the current one).

Though I do not know what you mean when you say "God promised to make a great nation out of both Ishmael and Isaac." Is this from the Bible?

Abraham is a mythical figure without the slightest indication of any historical reality. Though the existence of Jesus cannot be proved either, his story is at least rooted in recognisable times with the Romans in control etc and can be dated from the evidence of the Gospels to within a few years. There is nothing in the story of Abraham to indicate reality except for the mention of a few place names. Do you really believe that a "Asiatic" nomad could have an interview with the king of Egypt in ancient times. The old Egyptians did not generally care much for their northern neighbours.

I'm prepared to bet that there was no, or very little difference between the ancient Jews and the ancient Arabs. Someone once called Arabs "Jews on horseback". (That should go down well). By the way, there are far more non-Arab followers of Islam than there are Arab. Most of Indonesia follows Islam, virtually all of Pakistan, all of Iran and Iraq and there are large African Islamic populations and there used to be Chinese Muslims as well. Though there is Arab influence in Iraq, the population of Iran is of Persian rather than Arab ancestry.

BTW there are a good few Arab Christians around the place.

Islam is a religion. Arabs are a race. Yes Ishmael is father of Muslims. If we say he is the father of Arabs, then can he be the father of Christian or Jew Arabs? They should answer that.

The story go's... God promised Abraham and his wife Sarah a son. But after a number of years they had had no luck. Sarah felt a bit rubbish about this stuff, and being a good wife and got him drunk one night in a cave, she allowed Abraham to sleep with a servant girl, this resulted in a first son being born. Ismail. Later gods worlds were honored and Sarah became pregnant at a ripe old age of 85... or something.
The story go's on and on.... later Sarah made Abraham kick the first son and his old dear out. Ishmael became the bloke that lead to the forming of Islam and Muhammad was said to be a descendant.

G-d did promise to make great nations of both sons, Ishmael and Issac. And, it has happened.

There has been strife between them. But, I believe very strongly in an old Mid-east story that says the sons of Abraham, Ishmael and Issac, will someday walk hand in hand and live in peace. The only troubling part of this story is that they must stand together to fight others-in order to survive. But, they will stand together.

No, Islam is not a race, it is a false religion. Jews and Muslims have the same ethnicity-they are the same race. Yes Ishmael has many decendants-he is a great (very large) nation. Islam is juat a religion that was forced upon them by Mohammad and his murderous followers.
