Dogs are pack animals and when they're around humans a lot they consider themselves like humans. Sometimes they try to assume like behaviors to think maybe they're more like the pack.

Justice acted like a human because he was raise in the house with the humans from the time he was born. When he was sick and wouldn't eat I would feed him off a spoon (go ahead an laugh everyone else did) but it got him to eat. Sometime I think he wanted to eat at table with the rest of the family..
If you treat them like humans then they will act like humans if you treat them like dogs then they will act like dogs...

I think dogs start to think they are humans because that's what we demand of them sometimes.
We punish them for doing natural dog things like barking, growling when they feel threatend, hiking their leg, chewing, digging, etc. And we reward things that we like which is more acceptable behavior - like human behavior. And we do things like make a big deal about coming home to see them, feeding them from the table, etc etc.
It seems to be what we expect of them without understanding dog behavior. I know I'm often told my dogs behave better than most people's children. Of course they do - I agree. But I don't expect them to act like humans.

mimicking human behavior draws praise and affection....postive reinforcement..a dog knows gentleness and smiles from an owner and most people like that.
