Well I'm sure this would not be "best" on most people's list but the Poconos in Pennsylvania is really quite nice for snowboarding as well as snow tubing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing. It's quite reasonable compared to a lot of other "high-end" places and central PA mountains are beautiful country. The location is convenient for anyone living in the eastern U.S.

If you have a family and enough time consider Breckenridge in Colorado.
Family orientated, always good snow up till mid April and beyond, good rec centre nearby with pool and enough shopping to keep any woman happy.
Standards range from basic to double black and the area has just been expanded with a new Gondola and the highest chair lift in N America.

It has to be the US. If you can afford the flight out there, try Colorado's Arapahoe Basin, or the Woodbury Ski Area in Connecticut. Also Utah resorts like Brighton and Snowbird.

Depends what standard you are really. If you're from Europe, then I've always like Val Thorens or St Anton.

If you're from the states then Banf is the one.
