There's a very good reason for this. With each visit you have different expectations:

With your first visit you look for something nice you can just pick up and eat.

The second visit is looking for something nice you can prepare quickly.

The third visit is for anything you can shovel in your face as your getting a bit hungry and bored.

The fourth visit is where you have admitted defeat and are prepared to actually cook something in an effort to stave off imminent starvation.

The fifth and final visit is where you sneer at your unyielding fridge before calling for a pizza.

I do this. its sad. I keep going to the fridege in hopes that I will feel like eating something that is already in there....Not hoping that something new will materialize. I think "OK these cold cuts dont somund very good to eat right now" so then I go back in like 20 mins and maybe they WILL sound good to eat.
OK now that I actually see that in black and white, its a little on the crazy side. Yeah I need to stop doing that and just go to the store.

If you get the one true answer let me know. As a Mom I have seen this behavior way too often. I think it is mostly a teen age thing. They also like to stand in front of the refrigerator with the door open and stare inside. Is this the same thing?

Sometimes you get desperate! Last night I looked in the fridge and spotted some Parmesan cheese. Perfect on baked potato. It certainly filled the gap.

I stopped doing it when I stopped having as much food in my refrigerator. I guess now that I know exactly what's in there, I don't see the point.

Because I fully believe that the magic fridge fairies will put something in that I want to eat. Except they never do-so I end up eating nothing or eating something I didn't really want, but I'm starving so it will have to do.
Damn the magic fridge fairies!!! Why do they fail me so???

That's a good question! I think there are a whole lot of people that do. For me, I'm afraid I may have overlooked something in there and just can't find it!

I have no idea, yet I check the fridge all the time! Even when I'm not hungry, just to see whats in there!
