When it comes to normal bodily functions, there is definite prejudice. When a young lady on the train tried out that well known psycho-social response of yawning to start everybody doing it, people smiled and said things like, "You've got me at it, too!"

So why when I cocked my leg and let go with a thunderous, trumpeting fart and shouted, "Come on, you all know the tune!" did nobody join in? I did my best to encourage people with a bit of theatrical wafting, but everybody treated me like a social pariah.

You've fulfilled the proverb:

"Fart likes no one is smelling!"

Good on ya!

Yawning believe it or not doesn't offend anybody thats why. We all have this theory that farting in public is 'not the done thing' cos for one it causes embaressment, and two a lot of people find it offensive.

It has nothing to do with double standards, its just plain rude to subject someone to that kind of action.

Yes, the fart does suffer from a horrible double standard as opposed to the yawn. Don't take it personally.

Probably because yawns don't cause a stench to form in the surrounding area---unless of course, the yawner has really bad breath.

Humorous question, though. = D

That's not a double standard, that's two completely different scenarios.

but now you've got me yawning because you said the "y" word.
