You should not treat based on TSH. TSH only INDIRECTLY measures thyroid levels. An indirect measurement is not good enough to base treatment on. You need further blood tests - free T3 and free T4 - to see if you really have a problem and what it is. You really need these tests, because your symptoms are fishy. You are listing symptoms of both hyperthyroid and hypothyroid. So you really need further evaluation. You may not have a thyroid problem at all. There may be something else wrong with you.

Usually you will be started off at the lowest dose of a synthetic thyroid hormone. After about 6 weeks they should have you go in for another blood test to determine if that dosage is working for you. If the levels are still low, they'll up your dosage then repeat a blood test in another 6 weeks. They might have to repeat this cycle several times in order to find the right dosage for you. Once they find the dosage that works for you, you'll still need to get blood tests at least twice a year.

yes...definitely treat it. yuou may not be "severe" but are clearly hypothyroid. you can have your T4 and T3 checked too... the dose really depends on the person. you'll have to start slow and work with your doctor to decide.
