My husband was recently hit at a stop light. There is quite a bit of damage to his truck. My question is, is there any way I can handle the claim with the person responsibles insurance company. I don't want my insurance company to handle it because the last time we were rearended it took them FOREVER to even get a copy of the police report.
I have a copy of the report and the number to the ladys insurance company. I'm just not sure where to start and what to even say when I call...any help?

Even if you handle the claim yourself, it will still need to be reported to your insurance company. Since a police report was done, the collision is on your husband driving record (regardless of fault) which means if you don't report it to your insurance they can cancel your policy. If you are un-happy about the way they handled a claim tell them. If they still fail to satisfy you change to another provider.

You will have to work for the insurance company - as the other person's insurance will require it. What I would suggest is that you fax/mail or just hand them the report to speed things up.

As what to say when you call, let them know what happened with the accident and when it occured.

Claims service is important with an insurance company, and if they're not meeting your needs - go elsewhere. Its an competitive market for insurance companies and its time to shop around.

Don't know which country you are in but will guess U.S.A. and as that is very similar to Australia would have to guess that a call to the lady's insurance company requesting a claim form would fix it.

best thing is to photcopy all paperwork you have and get your insurance company to sort it out as they will have lawyers that will make it better for you. but you have the copies just in case
