I didn't expect the name-calling. The blasphemy surprises me the most. Even before I was born-again, I respected the idea of God. Call me naive, but I think we can share our views without the insults and disrespect.
"But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander"

Surely asking a question about religion is going to extract a comment from people with contrary beliefs. As long as the comments do not make reference to the other persons beliefs being stupid I don't see a problem. I have my beliefs and answer questions from that perspective, but I always keep in mind that I could be very wrong.

It's not suprising but I believe that anyone who is talking about religion, especially anyone who poses as a religionist but then insults others, is falling down. Such a person is not qualified to discuss religion. Or lets say they are not 'authorized'
Religion is deeply personal. Its about relationships. Its about relationship with God, and other living beings, not about rules and sects and doctrines. Its about real life. Its about belief that is based on understanding not dogma and which leads to actual realization.
Anger separates us for God.

I would honestly have been surprised if people WEREN'T fighting here. This is the religion section; people probably get more worked up and emotional over religion than any other topic. If you get Christians, atheists and Muslims all together in the same place, you just know sparks are gonna fly eventually.

I didn't expect to see anything but questions and answers.... I guess I expected alot of good questions... but not many in the "religious" area..... When, I found it, it made my day.... I found myself not going to my regular prophecy board so as to answer some questions.....
But, what I came across often, was the nastiness that others reflect against others for being christian... and a great deal of put downs because people put their faith in the unseen......
I also found some Ultra-Christians who outright condemn...."holier than thou" and "you're going to hell, if you dont' listen to me", mentality and I just didn't expect that..........

Ive come to expect it.
Though it seems here the athiests are more hateful than the religious. It also seems thier aim is at christians alone. Yet christians arent the ones threatening to cut off their heads.
There have been christian here however that have been just as hateful.
But this is common no matter where you go. If you go to an athiest site, you will find a few christians there trying to convert others or to defend thier religion. Here it seems , is an athiest hangout to bash people of faith.
EDIT- its not true is it athiests?! Thumb me down all you want but its the truth.
Ohh and suprise suprise the smart *** liberal that posted first gets the thumbs up.

I guess the category name kinda threw me off a bit.
Religion and spirituality....sounds nice.
But....I've been called names, insulted, and labelled as someone that I am not.
The other 98% of people here, are very intelligent and humorous and helpful.
This is an amazing opportunity!

I expected debate - Grown adults swearing through their computer screen trying to get people to understand logic, faith, etc. was more than I expected.
now it is often fun, and good at sharpening my skills at defending my faith.
I do still feel bad when I go to say Chemistry section, and give the occassional sarcastic - can't you add?

Anonymity with religion and politics thrown in to the mix. That's a recipe for disaster. Most of us would get along in person.
