Hagler

Additional - Hagler switched all right. That is one of the reasons that he lost to Ray Leonard. he was just ambidextrous enough to lose.

I would have to say Pernell Whittaker, the man was so clever and so tough to nail cleanly. He made a great fighter like Julio Chavez look like an amateur (a draw?, yeah right!). Gave De la Hoya and Trinidad tough fights and a lot of people thought he beat Oscar though he was a little past when prime when he fought Trinidad. I agree with you Frank, Hagler was mainly a southpaw so he ranks right up there as well (sorry Brad!). Hector Camacho Sr. in his prime was a fast, decent southpaw also. Michael Moorer deserves to be mentioned too. But i have to go with Sweet Pea as the best. Great Question!

Good question sir! Brad is correct about Hagler who would switch from time to time with an orthodox stance but was mostly a southpaw. Pernell "Sweet Pea" Whitaker was definetly a great southpaw fighter.

hey guys, awesome question. so good i had to actually do a little research on some southpaws. ****honorable mention from the files of the tyson-lovefest...he was a natural southpaw, converted to a rightie*** now onto your question, w/all due respect to marvin johmson, bazooka limon, and michael moorer(lt hvy)....gotta go w/sweetpea whitaker by a hair over hagler(no pun intended). seeing the way sweet pea man-handled chavez, i would so love to have seen him somehow go up against the marvelous one, all things being equal!

Frank baby, you're forgetting one thing; Hagler wasn't strictly a southpaw. He was one of the few ambidextrous boxers, able to switch from lefty to rightie with equal effectiveness.

I'll still go with Sweetpea - cute southpaw, who wasn't a big banger, but cleaned out four divisions.

How about Freddie Miller, world featherweight champion in the '20's. 211-30-7, with 45 KO's a slick defensive master/excellent counter puncher.
