He started downstairs, just this evening. The neighbors aren't home and have no pets. He started barking and growling at the ceiling. Now we're upstairs and he's doing it agian, but in my room...he keeps looking around the ceiling and whining, then trying to hide behind me, then getting in front of me and continuing the staring/whining...Has he gone nuts???

there is something there. if you don't check, you will regret it. it may be a sound but dog's sense is often very good. the owners who do not listen to what the dogs feel often pay a price. it may be 2 stories higher . check again. who knows, there's a dead body there or he heard something????????
there may be something going on. for ex, he maybe hearing somthing 50000HZ.

Or maybe there is a squirril on the roof, rat in the attic...

YOU may think im crazy, but he is seeing a angel, ghost,or some one who has passed recientley like 1 year or less respond to this and if u want to talk email me misitcdawn@yahoo.com dont get scared its ok

Your dog may be seeing an "orb" - a small 'blob' which is believed to be 'ghostly.' Humans usually can't see them, but there is some evidence that animals can.
Either that, or your dog is telling you to redecorate ;-)

depending on where you live you could have birds, squirrels, raccoons, opossums or even mice or rats, dogs don't necessarily need to hear or see the critters, they can smell them- you probably have an opossum in your attic or roof space

i think cos when planes orbirds fly over your house the dog probly thinks wot is that so he keeps looking at the ceiling! i dont think it will effect him!
