It works. I am an Indian and many people here use oil to beautify their hair. Try mixing 2 parts of coconut oil with 1 part of castor oil and heat the mixture. Massage this into your hair and wash off after two hours. It is a good deep-conditioning treatment.

In India people use herbal oils to replenish their hair and it works.. you can tell by the quality and richness of their hair.. also because they have long hair oil is more feasible than applying any form of hair conditioner..
it keeps your healthy nourished naturally. Although maintainence is essential. you may need to wash out the oil with 3- 4 hair washes to take away the smell thats why its preferred to have an oil that is scented. Also dont keep your hair too oily thinking its better for your hair coz your scalp generates natural oils making your hair look dull and sticky.
so it does work.. just dont go overboard:)
hope that helps

It is a very temporary fix, at best. The consequences are that it coats the hair shaft and does not let moisture in, causing your hair to become dry and brittle over time, and matted and dull because of the oil buildup. If you're intent on using oils, you should use a clarifying shampoo just as frequently to clear the buildup.

My boyfriends hair can get quite dry and dull looking, I have recently starting sosking it in olive oil for him once a month and have seen an amazing difference. My best friend also does it and her hair always looks amazing!

I just sit with him in front of the tv, with a towel around his neck. I pour some oil in my hand and rub in in his hair and just comb it through. He leaves it in for a couple of hourse then i shampoo his hair - wouldnt condition after as is looks a bit greasy!

Try it! it worked wonders for him!

No, I do not think it does anything good except make the hair look oily. Hair needs moisture, not oil.

oiling ur hair does not work at all but it can destroy ur hair cuticle when dust get deposited on the hair
it is better to massage ur head scalp so that blood circulation increases and hair falling etc can be prevented

It works as any other conditioner does--temporarily. That's why most "deep conditioners" are to be used once a week--their effect doesn't last a long time.
