I'm new at this job and I've got this co-worker who orders me around like I'm her child. How do I stand up to her without being demeaning right back?

If she is not your direct report, tell her to stick it in her butt. If she is, kill her with kindness and play every dirty trick you can on her behind her back.

well, as i tried to take a look at it, you might just mis-understood how does that co-worker treated you. some may actually acts that way but take it as constructive patterns for you to familiarize with your jobs well, with all your other co- workers, you see if your the newest among them, they may try to create a "scary" working environment towards you, of course to scare you and get you away, but, if you can show them that you can be flexible with all their whims, then sooner you'll win not only their favor towards you but also their love, so by then you are the one who'll be pampered with all their concerns towards you, becos of the right attitude you've shown towards them, or even with that single co-worker alone. alright....?
love begats love,.........and patience is a virtue.
no harm in trying my friend.........:)

Just ignore her and do things your way. You do not want to upset her either because she can be of great help since you're new to the job and all, but this attitude is not nice.

People who have longevity at a job think that makes them senior. politely tell the person that you both work for the same boss and tell them too do the task themselves.

1) Find out if the person is a boss, or a bosses relative, if not, you must do the "Come over here as-hole, we gotta talk" speech ! just lay it out "Early" the longer you wait, the worse it will get !

I'd say "Yes Mother" every time she does it...I don't think you really can do it without being somewhat rude.
