I'll tell you how i feel about it.first of all i want to personally thank your dad for the sacrifices he has made to help secure our safety.nobody and i mean nobody has any right to down the military.our military has been put in harms way on a hunch that Saddam had some weapons.this is not their fault.the job they are doing over there is heroic.all of them are heroes.the bad things you see that is being blamed on the soldiers is in no way their fault.a soldiers job is to follow orders.so don't blame the soldiers let's just bring them home safely to their families.your dad is a hero and i thank him.

I wish we had an exit strategy. I do believe that we can not leave at this point. Rumsfeld was the really weak link here. There is a book I just finished called Cobra 2 actually McCain mentioned it while he was doing his post hammering election news conferences from Tuesday. It really points out the failures and the difficult personality of this man. There was a great plan in place for the invasion which i do not want to write it will take all night. The United States has think tanks that analyze the best way to defeat every country. Rumsfeld just disregarded the whole thing and used way to few many troops. I know if I was an Iraqi I would be pretty pissed at us now. I know that the President lied to get us involved. We are their though so I want are boys to be safe and kill who they have to , so they can get out in one piece. I really wish we had just fixed or turned Afghanistan to glass.

I'm thinking that the reason these good things like building a school are not reported, is because the media would also have to report the school is empty and that many of the Iraqi children have been killed or wounded... The bad things happening in Iraq far out weight any of the good things we do at this point... The administration blew it, the Iraqi's don't trust us and we need to get out before we make any more enemies in the World...

Thank you for saying this . It is an odd war we fight , yet there are small rewards . As soldiers we fight , as men and women we try to make it better over there . Its hard to explain sometimes , especially to those who don't understand . (obviously you do) I don't mind when people talk bad about the war , that is one of the freedoms I am sworn to protect . The news only portrays the horrors of war because its more of an attention getter . " In the news today , three soldiers handed out toys to children in Tikrit Iraq ." Although it's nice ,and very true that these things happen , it doesn't get the news services the ratings that death and destruction do . I'm sure your Dad will tell you something similar .

The media seems to have always showed the bad side of war. Like I have posted in other questions here on Military, I would have to agree with you I am mad too. There is a lot of good coming from your Dad and every other soldier that has been there. TO hell with the media.

I think the US has the finest fighting force in the World and that they are all doing there best to help the people there, but, I think they were underforced at the beginning, and I do not think the Administration did a good job of conducting this war.
Rummy stood before troops and said "you go to war with what you have" in response to an question about armor.
Sorry, but............bull. In this case, there was no screaming need to launch a war, nor did we do it well, nor did Bush "Listen to the Generals", he might have had he actually talked to them, I don't know. But the clear and present facts are.........he didn't......from day 1 he let Rummy and Chaney run amok in the Pentagon.
I stand for our Military, I always have and always will, but this War was bogus from day one. I do not discount the good your Dad did, I thank him, and everyone who has tried to do the right thing in this country.
But they were from day 1 badly missled.

Nobody wants to hear how each time a structure, or some school is built, the damn insurgents come and blow it up. Or kill some of the workers there. Nobody wants to hear about how American troops will give away goodies (like usual), and sports gear to children just so later some insurgent wearing a bomb-belt comes running into town and blows himself up- Does anyone ever give any thought about the children? Or anyone BESIDES the troops- nope, prolly not. These kids- think about them for just a second, they will not forget this. How will they grow and turn out? They see this **** happeneing every day...whats God doing for thrm? nothing..American troops are "doing". Our guys/gals are doing far more than we give credit for...
They cant help being born there, or what life they are born into...so all they see between them, and a terrorist take over- are US troops.
Hoot Hoot to our guys/gals there! You are the sun and blue sky to these kids...THX for helping them....if we are so screwed up here about other aspects of the war...at least you can bring hope to them.

I agree with you and get upset too about people trash talking the war. Most of the arguments that I've heard people stating against the warn't even legitimate. The get there "Facts" from incorrect news reports and Micheal Moore's movie and assume they are right. When people tell me that we aren't doing anything good accomplished by being in Iraq I can only chuckle. I've spent months in Iraq, I'm actually there now, and have seen many good things come from our presence here. My personal opinion is that we should have come here to help out these people sooner.

It was idiotic, Saddam was contained and would have collapsed eventually, perhaps by a viable coalition of iraqis that could have formed a government and run the country.
Sending in 120000 troops to invade, conquer and garrison a country the size of Iraq was the height of stupidity. The current state of affairs was readily predictable.
I am not antiwar, simply against wasting troops due to bad planning and idiotic schemes.
If you propose to wage war, send enough troops, have a viable plan and execute.

A letter from an American, I thank God and people like your dad every day that they are doing the job they are doing. I know there are lots of good things the soldiers do over there they are people just like all of us and it disgusts me beyond belief that all the media reports is the bad and never the good. Please tell your father for me thank you, and I hope he keeps safe.
