they say using a sunbed is safer than going out in the sun because you only use the bed for 20 minutes a day as for the cancer part of it, i have not heard any news on people getting cancer, depending on your skin type I would avoid sun and tanning bed exposure, the sun and beds make your skin turn into a leather looking person...look into mystic tanning, it's safer...

As others have said, yes you can get skin cancer from using a sunbed, it's the UV that gives you the tan which also causes cancer I believe.
I did hear once though that you are more likely to get skin cancer if you have hardly any UV exposure most of the year and then spend 1-2 weeks sunning yourself on the beach. That's why people in Australia are less likely to get it than us Brits.

I believe Leowin is wrong, and the others are right. It IS possible to get skin cancer from sunbeds, as it is with the sun. But like all things, moderation is the key. I had two sun bed sessions last season and they perked me up. You need to be aware of the risks. Anyone going out at all in the sun risks skin cancer. Or you could be run over by a bus on the way to the tanning salon!
My sister had skin cancer - not from sun-bathing OR from sun beds. She had the area treated and is fine. However, some people do die from it.
If you are worried, check it all out and make your own assessment of the risk.
Fair haired people or red-heads, with freckly skin or lots of moles are more at risk.

i could stay removed from the sunbed altogether. you will ought to get used to being in a cooler, wetter climate and be mild or fake it like the rest people!! you will get some great creams that go away you with in basic terms a sheen and a glow. not fake tan, yet cleansing soap and Glory do a shimmer cream.

a sunbed is no better than the sun, dont use them, you will get old looking and wrinkle far more if you are tanned, not to mention the cancer thing.
