I served in Vietnam from mid 1967 to Oct 1968.
Was drafted and felt an obligation to serve.
My dad was in WWII for three years, his older brother was killed in Europe and younger brother served during Korea. Grandpa was in WWI. I went willingly to what was shaping up as a questionable war because I believed it was necessary to resist the spread of communism. I have since learned our presence in Vietnam did a lot of good. The communists spent so much time and resources in Vietnam they couldn't exert their influence elsewhere. So we did stop them from spreading through Asia.

None of my family knew it until I started searching our family history about seven years ago, GG-grampa served in the civil war. GGGG-grampa was in the revoluitionary war and was attached to General George Washingtons' party. So, it seems my ancestors have served in every major conflict that came along.

It is so nice to see that some people on Yahoo Answers can do more than bicker about Liberals and Conservatives.

I am Ex-Army...6 years 1976 - 1982. I did not fight in any War because when I joined, Vietnam had just ended and we were at Peace until the first Iraq War.

My Father also Army, fought in The Korean War.

Thank You! for taking the time to acknowledge the Vets who are putting their lives on the line for the rest of us!

Thankyou with heartfelt appreciation to even have the thought to thank us. Many just watch TV and have a half baked theory about the world and politics, not giving a thought to what servicemen and their families endure. Not just soldiers but those stationed everywhere. America would be better off if more people gave this some thought.

I'd like to thank you for your gracious gratitude . I come from a long line of service . My family can trace its military roots back to the revolutionary war . My father was in the Navy , My older brother is in the Airforce , I myself am in the Army , and my nephew will be entering the Army next year . Not to mention my extended family as well as ancestors . I served in Iraq . It means a lot to me to get that kind of recognition , so thank you .

Not to many people have ever said thanks. I thank you and I give you thanks for all vets. It has not always been so. In my job I would say that 99% of them are vets. Until recently I employed a WWII vet. He recently retired to take care of his ailing wife.
