the Roman and all the world was in fornication..Murder hunger slavery and all of most of what the word is up against now...Only difference was the powerful people killed for pleasure and entertainment,,,And Killed the ones in power to take over power..Filled with greed and self consumption....Jesus was sent here to save us not to worsen us...But they took Him for granite and Killed Him and Spit own Him...And crucified Him just like some of us today...Taking His death in Vane...God have mercey own us all....

The Romans changed from a Republic into an Empire just before the times of Jesus. The legacy left to us by the Romans was a system of laws, an alphabet and one could argue, a religious organization. Rome, as an empire, matured into a fat and lazy monster that ran out of ways to keep the cheap goods and services coming from military conquest. The collapse of the Western Empire is 600 years after the Passion Play and is how we mark the beginning of the Dark Ages.

The benefit came much later. As the Roman Empire declined, the Emperor Constantine decided that he would become Christian. It strengthened his rule and it became "the Holy Roman Empire". It also made lots of changes to Christianity to Romanize it. For instance, December 25 was Constantine's birthday.

I don't think young roman teenagers being sodomized by roman senators or their military instructors qualify as "doing pretty good".

Unfortunately, someone forgot to tell the Roman Catholic priests that.
