Suppose you are an elevator operator.
Twelve people get on at the ground level.
On the second floor 5 get off 4 get on.
On the 3rd floor, 7 get off and 9 get on.
On the 4th floor, 8 get off and 3 get on.
On the 5th floor, the rest get off.
How old is the elevator operator?
PS you can use any reasonable number getting off and on.

21! I must tell on my fiance! He is a over thinker, he just did the math and decided the answer is 8 which would make him a child molestor and then he started to go into this weird calculation process in his head. So finally I said how old am I, Sweetie and he shushes me twice, then I yelled at him, and he he says, OMG I'm such an idiot! and he answers..............21+8 the operator is 29!!!!
What an idiot genius, he's so wrapped up in it being a riddle that there has to be some kind of thought process involved!!!! So he still doesn't get it and has walked away from the computer with an attitude!!!!!!

There isn't enough room for an elevator operator on the ground floor to begin with, if you have 12 riders in the first place. Weight capacity and all.

It's fairly obvious that it is the age of the person listening(!) to somebody speaking the question, as it says - "It only works when spoken" and if you speak it and say "You", you can't use your own age...
Also, i work in an office building across the road from a construction site... There is definetly an elevator operator sitting in the elevator...
Though it's irrelevant, he appears to be about 85...

It is irrelevant how old the elevator operator is, because there is no such thing as an elevator operator anymore. All elevators are automated now.
However, since in this riddle it is presumed that I am the elevator operator, the operator is whatever age I presume to be.
