Isn't everything made up of elements & compounds? the person i gave best answer to this Q made a good point: even if we can figure out how to construct a human body (without cloning) how do we give it a soul/spirit? What is our souls and spirits made up of & when will we be able to create one to stick inside a person? or even a robot?

I don't know, but it really does seem like mind transcends physicality. Is it all just neurons? As I sense my own mind, it doesn't seem based in a physical reality. If we put enough computer chips together, would that be enough to give some computer program a sense of its own mind similiar to the way I sense mine?

Furthermore, humans have some kind of spiritual faculty. When this faculty is operating, very strange things can happen, such as telepathic communication, clairvoyance, etc. This faculty is a sense of connection with ... something, I call it spirit. Is it the soul that gives us this spiritual faculty? Is it all just hormones and neurons, or is there some kind of divine spark within that comes not from the physical world?

I don't know the answer, but I love the question.

You pose a great question. Scientifically, yes we are all made up of a bunch of chemicals and compounds and elements...the last time i took a science class (quite awhile ago) our bodies consisted of about $1.76 of chemicals :0)
Our souls/spirits are made up of our faith, beliefs, morals and character...nothing that can be created or "put into" a body by mankind. Mankind may be able to clone animals and someday people and of course we create robots practically daily...but none of these creations will bare a soul/spirit. Sure, they'll have their beliefs, morals, character and maybe even faith, but we as humans cannot create it and "inject" one. It would be up to God to place a soul into such a being of creation.
This of course is my personal belief....i have no references, no solid proof, no scientific fact to back my words up...it's just opinion.

How do you even define what a soul is?

So far... a soul is "a gift from god" and "made of the spirit of god".

The first definition only tells us where the soul came from, not what it is, and the second definition is incoherent and therefore worthless. Defining one unknown term (soul) with another unknown term (spirit of god) only leads us further into confusion and no closer to any real understanding of the concept.

To say that a soul is ‘a mysterious gift’ or ‘made of spirit’ is to say nothing more then some unknowable thing possesses some unknown qualities in an unknowable way.

Yep, we're all chemicals. We haven't figured out exactly what makes us alive yet, but we're working on it. I don't buy into the idea of a soul or spirit in the supernatural sense; I think there's a scientific explanation somewhere - we just have to find it.

Great question. And should enlighten many. Sometimes man thinks he's ' oh so smart ', sometimes men are fools. Great example.

when God created Adam and Eve, he blew his breath into them and gave them His spirit.
when they sinned that spirit died, and when we accept Jesus that spirit regains communion with God, and is alive again.

ONLY GOD CAN BREATH
THE GIFT OF LIFE INTO US.
