Yes and no.
Some people need religion more than others. Religion is a guidance to how one should behave in public and private. It teaches people how to be fair, how to love, how to think when one does not have parents who teaches him/her. Religion is a spring broad, a tool, but it should not be the answer to all problems. Religion teaches morals. It does not specifically help you live your life. It teaches shame, humility and dos and don'ts, but how you live is up to your interpretation.
When someone takes religion to an extreme, that's when trouble happens. This is when the world is not at a better place due to religion.
You will also have the opposite extreme or no religion, no morals, and that's no okay either. Crimes will take place all over, no one would feel safe. It will be survival of the fittest. The law is built on ethical and moral beliefs. If it were not for religion, who would it be to judge that an ax murderer will get life or get off scott free?
To answer your question, and it is a good one that you are asking, If religion were never to have existed, we may still have ethics and moral, because they are part of religion, but at the same time, no religious people are still ethical and have their own set of morals that they live by (common sense and logic).
As for now, we do live in a society that has religion and I don't feel that we are in a better place, because at the moment, the other side of the world is fighting over religion and who has the right religion or the better religion. Why can't we all just get along?

No way. Because God is the one who brought you here. It does not matter which God you believe in But he having different religeons allows us to practice different beliefs.Religeonn is what bringssanity to the world. For example how would you know that killing is wrong? Or tyhat pre marital sex is wrong or that we should pay taxes? Religeon plays a big part to the rules of our countries, That is where most laws are drawn from. So weithout religeonm, i think that this world would be worse than it is.

War has often started over religious differences, but then again there's also land disputes or oil or some other thing that someone wants to take from someone else.
Then there's the point that many people treat themselves and others badly until they believe there's a higher power to follow, and then they change. Of course, people also commit atrocities in the name of their gods as well, but they're of a mind to fight, and they probably would, anyway.
Then there's the hope issue. People often lose hope in the face of despair if they have no deity to look up to for guidance, or a belief that there's a better world to go to. People without hope become desparate, and desperate people do unpleasant things.
Well, as a non-believer, I intended to argue that the world would be better without religion and instead found it would be the same or worse. I'm not converted, but good on you for posing such a thought provoking question.

You are running on my path now...I think. People believing in God, The Great Spirit is one thing. That is between a person and his/her God.
Religion, to me, is created by man. Why? To control others. If you can't be the King of a country you can at lease control small to large group of people through religion. There is a lot of money to be made in religion and many of those people enjoy the power over others.
Most wars were religion causing wars.
Would the world be a better place? I think it would help if people would not be so close minded to each other belief, culture, race, etc.

dude, why the f*ck are you attacking islam? only because you're probable some sorta christian extremist does not mean you may attack all relgions that you do not practice! really, you're biased. the authorities really shows you the hazards of the religion, not in any respect the constructive. yet having suggested that, living in a majorly christian inhabitants, they are not likely to make islam sound attractive. when you're saying the global will be better without islam because of their disagreements and issues that get up out of it, you would to boot say a similar about christianity, or judaism, or any of the religions on earth. there have been major conflicts in all religions, and it replaced into not promoted as a results of unique faith, yet extremists interior the relgion. those who want power or have a egocentric motivation it fairly is contraversial and could lead/ can likely lead suffering of others. human beings will continually argue about faith. that's a futile conflict too, for you may't rigidity someone to have self assurance that his faith is incorrect and yours is nice. although, you may stop attacking different religions as a results of propaganda you're rigidity fed

If the world had no religion, we would of already blown are selfs up. Men dont fight because of religion, they fight because of the opposite of religion, (satan, evil, ect.). Religion is what keeps your culture, family, and mind intact. This question is one small step to fullfilling prophecy's in the book of revelations. Listen to System of a Down, and listen to the words, not the music. You'll feel better.:)

Maybe some, but men will always find something to fight about.
Now if we all accepted everyone for what they are then the world would be good, but I won't hold my breath personally.

No. Most religions are not evil. People who decide THEY know how to interpret their Holy books, or that THEIR religion is "the only way to God", or that THEIR religion gives them permission to kill are what is the problem.
