Hi there! You don't say what kind of cockatiel or what sex your new bird is. I just came across a name in my searches. (I am getting a pair of lineolated parakeets and am looking for names, too.) The name is Samirah. It means "Entertaining Companion" in Arabic. I thought this was really original. Other names that I like (but are not so original) are Petrie (the flying dinosaur from the Land Before Time movies) and Sweet Pea. Also Iago (pronounced eeahgo). He is the parrot type bird in Aladdin played by Gilbert Gottfried. It is so much easier to name him/her once you observe it's personality and coloring. A name may just come to you once you have been around him/her for a while. Good luck to both of you. I hope you have many, many happy years together.

As I have learned many years ago pets are not things. I am sorry was not wanting to be mean. As a new Cocktiel owner, this idea for you could be quite amusing. Watch your new pet for a couple of weeks. What he/she does providing you let him/her out of the cage, or what he/she does while he/she is in the cage. One day a word will pop out of your mouth and you will think, hey! that's my birds name. I had no idea what my tiels name was when I inherited him, but watching him made me name him Vito. One of the most memorable days in my life. He knows it also and always steps up to it.....Oh your going to enjoy your tiel for years. Me about 7 years so far, I think he is 10. Give you a little hint, he is usually on my keyboard and one day, (I should have seen it coming) he took the esc key and flew directly into his cage. I bought him a keyboard. He has picked a few keys off and when I am able to get to them without him pecking my hand, he could probably have a message, yes tiel owners I clean his cage regulary but leave his "toys" alone. Love him to death.

I would also say sparky, because for one, my bird's name is Sparky, and if it talks, it is easy for birds to get the y and the ck sounds . good luck!!!!! Have a great time with your birdie!!!!
