Just for kicks.... take a look at the word religion!
Re= means to do again
ligare = means to bind to or tie to
Religion means: to bind back to (God).... religion (in whichever form) is mankinds attempt to reconnect with God.
The things done in the name of religion (wars, persecution, etc, etc,) are not really part of the attempt to reconnect with God, but are mistakes made by mere mortals who are misguided by other mere mortals.
We don't need to rid the world of religion, we need to rid the world of idiots.

Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, heart of the heartless world, just as it is the spirit of the spiritless conditions, it is the opium of the people. Religion is the fantastic reflection of objective reality. It was the answer and solution for the primitive ignorant man. It was not forced upon man, thus, force can't end religion. It was a product of ignorance and sufferings. The end of ignorance and sufferings would end religion. When man has finally solved his woes, religion would wither away.
Having said this, it has come to a point that religion has hindered scientific progress and has put humanity in chaos and war. What we can do now is to show the idiosyncrasies of this myth in all fora we can. But we must be realistic that arguments and debate will not end it.

From time to time, everyone experiences a sense of reverence. This is natural. And there seems to be an instinct of some kind to seek a creator or source. And many things are inspiring. Religion takes these natural, human feelings, builds on them, and channels them into thought patterns. I think one idea is to study the basic feelings of religion and show them to be universal. It might give different religions a basis for conversation and possibly even mutual respect. Idealistic, I know.

The best way to get rid of religion is in a word education. Knowledge is the truest enemy of faith, and faith cannot stand against knowledge. Those are two vital facts, the more educated the populace becomes as a rule the less religion rules their lives. Oh they may still call themselves this or that but it affects their daily lives and overall choices less, because deep down they know that much of what their religion teaches them is wrong. That is why we manage to live in a country wher 80% of the population says they believe in God and yet still manage to retain many freedoms that the teachings of those religions would deny us. After all how is it that in a country as religious as ours supposedly is,some of the biggest industries are adult entertainment, alcohol etc? Just a thought, perhaps I'm way off.
And please to the boob who said the ideals of Hitler would help get rid of religion I have to say, please get an education before you speak. Hitler was a Christian,Catholic educated as a matter of fact, which is where he picked up much of his early anti semetic attitude, matching the attitude of the Catholic Church of the time. Read Mein Kampf orjust google the issue before people babble on about the Nazi party not being directly linked with many Christian attitudes in Europe at the time, how do people think he got so many behind him,and why the Catholic Church said nothing till over 50 years later? Ok rant over, just that crap burns me up.

Okay. This requires a time machine and complete secrecy. Use the time machine, go back in time and kill Jesus in his cradle before the wise men arrived or however the story goes. I know, religious folk screaming mad and other folk screaming he didn't start it all. Me no stupid lik dat.
Jesus formed christianity, yeah? Catholosism has something about Jesus, Satanism is played off of Jesus. All these religions around Jesus. If no Jesus existed to base religious stuff off of what can you list that might not have happened? Uhm. Crusades? The poor treatment of natives who refused to convert? "Holy wars" in his name?
If you want to get rid of all religions... well, that's probably impossible.

The best way of eliminating religion is to murder anyone who has belief in anything supernatural; muder all people who know of anyone who has belief in anything supernatural (since these people would be indirect witnesses); destroy all documents and art that pertain to anything religious or supernatural; and from that point forward threaten--and follow through with--the murder of anyone who does or says anything that even points to or hints at the supernatural.
This would mean that you yourself would have to be among those who are murdered, but if it is that important to you, I don't see why you should have a problem sacrificing your own life so that the world may be cleansed as you would like it to be.

Postscript: Eliminating religion does not eliminate God. Just FYI.

You can stay out of religion if you want but there are plenty of us, myself included who feel we are better people because of it. How about we ship you nonbelievers who are so concerned about OUR beliefs off to mars or something so you can live seperate from us. I don't hate you or anything for not believing. It just annoys me that you can't respect those of us to who do and I mean this in general and not at the poster of this question. I'm not one to tell everyone they should believe in God so it annoys when people say I shouldn't. Live and let lie and let us all find our inner peace in our own ways.
And I do not feel religion comes from ignorance and I also indeed have a mind of my own. I am very intelligent, high IQed and no one I've ever met has called me ignorant or stupid and I believe in God.

Unfortunately the destruction of christianity is on it's way, even if it means they inprision or kill millions. They're working hard to get rid of Jesus. Crosses no longer allowed on public property, eventually we won't be allowed to wear one either. I believe churches will even be shut down. So don't fret, freedom of religion, speech and expression is on it's way out. We will become bottom feeders with lots of bottom of the pit welfare. We'll have to worship science and the state to get that.

Why do people believe in religion? Fear, I think. Fear of death. Fear of living. Fear of wars, disease, not finding love.
Eliminate fear, you eliminate the need for religion. How to eliminate fear is the trick.
Education. Good parenting. A strong social safety net. Best I can come up with.

Hitlirism. He's the one that no one has been able to match. He killed some 14 million Jews and a bunch of other people from other religions.
