In addendum to your comment:
"don't some people realize that by their asking questions just to enflame debate and controversy, or just to hurt someone, that they themselves are convicted by that same self-righteous attitude that they come on with, and by their own version of god?"

I don't believe that 'inspiring conversation and thought' is wrong. Bringing up a subject of interest, for good, is inspiring in itself.
Doing it to hurt someone is always wrong.
The self-righteous attitude is a result of wanting to share the word, but just going about it the wrong way. And, keep in mind, sometimes some people need a little kick in the behind to get started. Christians are people. People sin. Simple as that.

my version of god tells me to ask questions to enflame debate and cause controversy, or just to hurt someone. My God is an awesome God indeed.

Yes! I have realized this. I am guilty!
Sometimes, I cannot see beyond my own "tunnel vision".
Sometimes my mind is open and understanding.
I return consistently to my belief that there is but one God and many paths to that one Energy Source. This is all I fully believe to be true. My human faults and contributes make me no better and no worse than any other person.

Many people ask to inflame, because it is a faceless person they are inflaming. They don't think that these faceless people have feelings too.
Then there are the people who pay back a wrong, with a wrong. I occassionally get caught up in this. though I do know it is wrong.

No because, they think that they are trying to help them see the light. What they don't realize is that when they enrage them they are making the problem worse.
