I guess it depends on your current situation. Firstly, try and get in contact with a local health professional who is 'pro weight loss' and not just going to try and push you into surgery. this should be your last option.

Secondly, I would get yourself assesed and find out exactly where your health lies, and if there are any contributing factors such as insulin resistance, thyroid problems or anything medically that you may need to be treating in unison with your weight loss efforts. Some people find that they are doing all the right things but just arent losing the weight. Its usually becasue they are not treating an underlying problem.

All of this ground works is really one of the most important parts of losing weight. I believe once you know your body and you exact health status, losing weight is a much easier task.

Another thing, that may or may not apply to you, but you need to truely believe that you deserve to lose the weight. So many people these days sabotage themselves time after time, because of the fact that they dont think they are worthy. You Are!

Thirdly, you need a really good support network around you. Do you know anyone else you needs to lose weight, or has been talking about it? If you do, take control, call them, tell them your goals and invite them along with you to take the weightloss journey. You need to be able to confide in somebody that you trust.

Lastly, and I'm only saying this becasue I have been where you are now, but don't cheat yourself. If you eat a chocolate block, or have a bit of a binge, be honest to yourself, don't go on with the mentality that becasue no-body knows you did it, it didnt happen. Just own your choicesand move on. Thats all you have to do. Do not hate yourself, or beat on yourself if you make a mistake, just get back up and keep going.

I'm sure if told you nothing you didnt already know... I really urge you to get your bloods checked first of all, from there, I kow you can do it.

Take Care

You answered your own question. And no, I'm not being a smart ***.

My brother in law had the surgery to force him to eat right. To me, he could have done the same thing without the risk and permenant act of cutting out part of his stomach. Now he can NEVER eat some foods, where he would have been able to eat them in moderation had he exerted more willpower.

To me, never is a long time. I would consider the surgery a last resort move.

Since neither of those surgeries resolves WHY the person is over eating, they frequently have very serious complications when the patient still over eats & causes ruptures. ANY alternative that determimes why the over eating and resolves it would be better.
(these are usually emotional issues causing the problem)

Gastric banding is another one, not as drastic as gastric bypass. It is adjustable and completely reversible.
