Ask a pharmacist to order it if it is not in stock locally. Get the generic drug name (eg acetaminophen = aspirin) and find a comparable product by that compound name. I had to do that for DRISTAN pills, which I had used for over 40 years for sinuitis. Now it seems the drug stores carry DRISTAN nose spray, but no one carries the DRISTAN pills. But I researched DRISTAN on line to find the compound name, and found the comparable product under a store brand label.

Good luck.

The medicine you are looking for is called "Contac." It is manufactured by GSK (GlaxoSmithKline) and is primarily a decongestant. There are many different formulations of Contac (Contac-D, Contac Cold, Contac Cold + Flu, etc). The main ingredient in most of the formulations of Contac is pseudoephedrine hydrochloride in various doses. This drug is also marketed as Sudafed.

One of the reasons you may not be finding it in the store is that most major retail chains in the US have taken all medications containing pseudoephedrine HCl and have moved them behind the pharmacy counter. You have to ask a pharmacist to get the medicine. They'll still give you a box without a prescription, but they are controlling how much is distributed because medicine with pseudoephedrine can be used to make "meth" (methamphetamines). Meth is pretty easily manufactured with household chemicals and Sudafed, so to slow the production of meth, most retail chains have voluntarily moved over-the-counter medications containing pseudoephedrines behind the counter.

Next time you're in your local retailer, ask the pharmacist if they have any Contac or Sudafed or similar products.

I believe it was Contac, not Contact. Maybe that will help.
