most of the churches i have been to the pastor read from the bible, that does not mean that he did not have scripture memorized only that he wanted to be accurate, and very few pastors have the whole bible memorized.

I am a member of the Nazarene church and can tell you that I have not ever ran across a pastor that didn't know scripture. I don't care what religion, if the pastor didn't read the Bible or utilize it during a sermon, I would have to wonder if he was too prideful to use it and how accurate are his quotations.
I was raised freewill baptist, and I don't ever remember a pastor NOT reading from his Bible during his sermons either. You may just have encountered and been used to one specific pastor that used a different technique.
I hope you enjoyed your Nazarene experience. They are all wonderful people truley surrounded by the Spirit. I have attended and been a member of the Nazarene Church in three different states, West coast, East Coast and middle America and I can tell you that it is a wonderful Church body.
God Bless

Could it be if the pastor memorized the Scripture he only preaches on one or two things. It is common for a pastor to read the Scripture. That is the way he learned to do it in college. That way he doesn't misquote the Bible.

He probably does have Scripture memorized, but he may not have memorized that particular portion. Or, he may have had that memorized, but was choosing to read it from the text. I've done that before--chosen to read a passage that I already knew. That may be what that congregation is used to. Just because you're used to something doesn't make it wrong or right.

If he didn't read the scripture from the bible, would you believe what he was saying?
If you would believe what he was saying, how would you know if its the truth?
In order for you to gain accurate knowledge for yourself, it would be very wise of you to read your bible often and do your own research and get questions answered.
