I have an LG LCD TV and I have to press the Menu button on the TV or the remote for any other function to work
It takes me about 20 seconds to move the volume one notch or to change the channel up or down one notch. Anyone have any ideas?

Unfortunately the problem is not with the remote, because this problem exists at the tv as well.
It isn't a major problem with the tv because my cable converter can control the channels and volume but I can't use all of the features of the tv.

Connect the audio to a surround sound receiver
and use the volume of the receiver -and voila!

first try changing the battery. if thats not it try cleaning off the the remote control sensor. it's not the tv.
