Who was Paul writing to? Christians. Nothing can separate BELIEVERS from the love of God.
When someone goes to hell (GeHenna in the Hebrew, Tartarus in the Greek) you do so by your own volition, and you must step over the dead body of Christ to get there.
Jesus spoke of hell as a literal place. If you are going to disbelieve, (especially over apparent, as opposed to real, contradictions) you do so at your own peril.

We believe in Paradise and Hell. Paradise is the abode of enjoyment which God, the Exalted, prepared for the righteous. The blessing they enjoy there, no eye has ever seen, no ear has ever heard of, and no human being has ever imagined: "No soul knows what comfort is kept hidden for them, as a reward for that which they used to do." (32:17) Hell is the abode of punishment which God has prepared for the unbelievers and the evildoers. The torture and horror in it cannot be imagined
without it, God would not be the Just and Wise and merciful God He is. God created men and made them responsible for their actions; some behaved well but others did not. If there is no future life in which the virtuous are rewarded and the vicious are punished, there would be no justice and the creation of men in that way and the sending of Prophets to them would be to no purpose at all. But this kind of behaviour is not expected of a man known to be rational and just, let alone the Perfect Creator.
Without belief in this Day on which everyone will receive his just deserts (when the wrongdoers are justly punished and the righteous are rewarded bountifully), man would lose the impetus to behave fairly towards others and the oppressed would grow hopeless and miserable.
Belief in the Hereafter is an essential element that helps to control human delinquency and establish collective happiness and virtues in society.

The apostle Paul is speaking of the saved......once you are saved nothing can separate you from the love of God. If you are not saved then you will suffer eternal separation from God......which is Hell. The Holy Spirit does not reside in us until salvation, which is aquired when we accept Jesus as our savior. The moment we do this is when the Holy Spirit steps in and that is when nobody or no thing can remove us from God's hand. We should all indeed be in great mourning for those that are in hell.....and just as concerned for those that are still here that are not saved because of their destiny if they do not accept Jesus as their savior. That's why we are commanded as Christians to spread the gospel to the ends of the earth so that we are blameless if they do not accept.....in other words, if we have witnessed to the unsaved and shown them in God's word what it takes to be saved, and they still cannot or will not believe, then we are not to blame that they have not heard the truth. God is a loving God but he is also a just God.....he can only accept perfection and the only way to achieve perfection is to believe his son died to cover our sin......we are separated from God until we accept this.....once we accept, we cannot be separated from God....this is what Paul is saying. Besides, even if none of this were true (which it is.....from front to back the bible is full of this message), but if it werent and what you are suggesting is that maybe God isn't so loving after all and why would you want to be a part of such......what are your choices? Just because you may think you want no part of this God.....that isn't going to make hell any better........why not choose God? Wouldnt that be better than hell? You don't get a third choice, like maybe NOTHING happens after death if you don't want anything to do with this God......you either get hell or heaven.....like it (or Him) or not. But, honestly, this is a ridiculous scenario I've presented.....God loves us so much that He gave His only Son that whosoever believes in him would not perish but have everlasting life.....that's what the bible says. It's a free gift, dude......just reach out and grab it.....then you will be able to see what a loving and just God really is....not what your misconstrued idea of God is.

Did you know there are some things that God cannot do? God cannot sin; nor can he tolerate sin. John 9:31 tells us, "We know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He hears him."
The Holy Spirit does not reside in all of us. Acts 2:38 tells us what we must do to receive this great gift: Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
Jesus spoke of hell more than he spoke of heaven. Revelation 14:10,11 tells us the final, eternal destiny of the sinner: “He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone...the smoke of their torment ascended up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day or night.”
As far as your question about residing in peace when others are burning eternally; read "How can people be happy in heaven, knowing that their unsaved loved ones are suffering in hell?" by Ray Comfort at: http://www.livingwaters.com/witnessingtool/howcanpeoplebehappylovedoneshell.shtml
Keep reading your Bible and praying.
God will light your path. Psalm 119:105

If you look around at the world, the hell you speak of is HERE. People are burning and starving, children are dying from diseases and torture all over the world; and this is the hell we have created for ourselves.
God doesn't want any one of his creations to be in hell, but sometimes our bad actions, or lack of any action, bring hell into being.
When the Bible was written, things were portrayed pretty much in black and white, especially the Old Testament, so as to teach lessons and be a guide. It is very easy to portray a truth starkly rather than subtlety. A lot of what the Bible teaches, if you read only the words and not the meanings, is stark. It was written that way for a people who, at the time it was written, didn't know how to read or write, and needed word of mouth to spread the news of God.
But here is the good news: most of us now have the ability to read and write; and so the Bible still has the same wisdoms and guidelines for the educated to glean from it by reading and having time to ponder the stories and meanings.
I do not believe that any of God's children are burning in eternal hell after their passing. But i do believe we often create a hell here for ourselves by impatience, jealousy, bigotry, unkindness, gossiping, ingratitude, and a thousand other barriers that lie between us and peacefulness and the love of God.

First baptism does not save you, only accepting the sacrifice made by Jesus saves.
Holy Spirit does not reside inside everyone. There again you must accept Christ to have Holy Spirit reside in you.
I personally do not rest peacefully knowing that billions of people will spend all eternity separated from God in Hell. That is why I do everything I can to warn people, and persuade those who will listen.

Hell was created for Satan and the other fallen angels. However, since then...many, many others have decided (by choice mind you) to join Satan in hell.
Matt. 7:13 You can enter God's Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and it's gate is wide for the many who choose that way. 14 But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.
Luke 13:24 Work hard to enter the narrow door to God's Kingdom, for many will try to enter but will fail. 25 When the master of the house has locked the door, it will too late. You will stand outside knocking and pleading, "Lord, open the door for us." But he will reply, "I don't know you or where you come from."
I know these things to be true ((they are in red letters (Jesus' words.))
What path will you choose?

There is a Bible passage that speaks of the "damned" being cast out into the outer darkness to be utterly consumed...that means completely out of existence. The Buddhists believe that there are some souls that are so corrupted that they are totally eliminated. Whatever you call God, or however you chose to honor Him, I think you probably can see the rationality of not allowing those who create grief and trouble to enter into a place where contentment and peace are supposed to exist. Now whether you call that heaven, or achieving Nirvana, is up to you. Still, a place where one is rewarded for living an ethical and moral life, with concern for his fellow man and all of creation should be a stress free place. Don't you think? Now how could you let a bunch of trouble makers in there and still call it being rewarded?

Sorry, but the eternal torment version of hell is flawed. Christianity has some truths but this is not one of them.
Souls may experience a version of hell for a time when they pass on, but only because they have not fulfilled their goals in the life they just left. This does not last, as there is only love and guidance waiting on the other side, from God, and loving spirits, who gently help tormented souls come to terms with their mistakes.
We all have to return to earth to change our bad karma, but this is something we come to realize on our own and so, usually, go willingly. Perhaps this is hell, our endless rebirths in the physical plain, striving to perfect our karma and thus, our souls, so we can be worthy of rejoining God. An extremely evil soul, such as a Hitler, would have to be cleansed, which is in a sense like burning in hell. But for the majority of us, eternal damnation is just a myth, designed by man to scare people into following the rules of their religions.
Don't waste your energy trying to prove Christianity is all wrong. It isn't all wrong. There are a great many truths in it, as there are in most religions. Embrace whatever guidance all religions offer, that will help you to fulfill your soul's true path - the one you know in your heart to be the right one. Love.

You have a few things that are totally Scripturally wrong.
Is Paul really teaching that everyone will be saved? He is asking "who will separate us from Christ?" (Romans 8:35) he is encouraging believers not to be forced into denying Christ no matter what trials or persecution come. That they all in themselves to do not have the power to separate you from God, only you do!
Does the Holy Spirit dwell in everyone? The Holy Spirit only resides in BELIEVERS that have confessed, repented, and believed in Jesus. (Acts 2:38)
Are we going to anguish in Heaven? No, God is going to put the old order of things to rest and Heaven will have no pain or tears. (Revelation 21:4)
Is God showing "unrespecting love" to unbelievers? Would you consider sending your 1st and only son to die for sinners that hated you "unrespecting love"? You have it backwards, it is the sinner that is being unfair to God, far form the opposite! God has given them every chance!
Perhaps you could explain how a loving just God doesnt punish women that drown their kids in a bathtub, or nazi soldiers that shoot a Jewish woman in the head while holding her child, or Islamic fascists saw the heads off people that dont conform to their religion? Need I go on?
