Hardwood floor - Water or Oil stain for Dogs?

Which is a better stain to protect my hardwood floors from my dogs? Will one scratch easier? What about if water spills from their dish and sits on the floor?

If it's a new unstained floor look into the Watco. It's a Danish wood oil that penetrates into the wood and hardens. It comes in a lot of colors and can be retouched easily.

Oil base, then put a protector under the water dish.
