Are rice cakes any good? To me, it seems as though they're be pretty bland but I've never tried them. Where can I buy them and how much do they cost?

Well, it depends on where you're from. Here in the Philippines, rice cakes (or puto) are everywhere and they are quite cheap too about ten pesos for 5 pieces for the medium sized ones (1dollar = 50 pesos). Most of us love it with a blood dish called dinuguan (pretty tasty!) or if some butter.

Rice cakes are made from the small pieces of Styrofoam that fall away during the manufacturing of this product. I believe the store will pay you to take them home.
