Partly because it's anti-establishment (though it's fast becoming the accepted norm) so it's seen as a rebellious statement, and partly because it's a reflection of our true feelings, such as when you hit your thumb with a hammer and cuss, or spill your coffee in your crotch while driving. Cussing at such things allows us to channel our reaction in a very satisfying and mostly harmless way. There's nothing that says *!^&*&^*%! quite like
*!^&*&^*%! The wonderful thing about f!&* is that it can mean so many things depending on the inflection and context in which it's used. This non-official word has got to be the most versatile word in the English language and understood all over the world. Why are people so freaked by it then?

People cuss because they have an inadequate vocabulary to express themselves. If cussing feels liberating to you, then perhaps you are temporarily displacing your feelings of inferiority and ignorance when you cuss... but I find it difficult to believe you feel any better after you cuss.

Because it is a sin. Every now and then, I slip up. It might feel good to begin with, but God burdens my heart for doing such a thing and then I repent and feel better.

It is a sign of lesser upbringing and a lack of education.
Civility is the realm of higher lifeforms.
You have a higher brain, I suppose, why do you not use it???
If you are human that is, you have a higher brain capable of higher and more complex functions.
