For all 3 of my daughters, we refered to them as "Girl Parts"- My oldest is now 4 and it is easier to explain the difference to her.

I think honestly is best. Especially being a female, if you call it how it is and not make it out to be an uncomfortable or yucky thing, then it'll help her to grow up to be comfortable and confident about her body.

exception- for the really young. up to about 3 or 4, I'd just stick with peepee.(especially since my 2 yo can't say vagina yet, and if she could, she would likely say it at the worst possible place/time. like the line at the supermarket. LOL)

I've always felt it's best to call it what it is. If she's really young, like 2, you could just use peepee since that's what she acquaints with that area. I didn't explain the vagina to my daughter until she wanted to know how babies come out of the mommy's belly. Just be honest and don't give her more information than she can handle and you'll both be just fine.

We call the whole area in general "private parts", so they understand the accepted way to discuss that area.

We call the front their "pootie" and the back their "bootie" or "butt", although I'm honestly not sure where we came up with the word pootie lol. But it's easy to pronounce for them.

Also, when they asked about boys, we say that boys have outie pooties and girls have innie pooties, and they seem to have gotten that concept fairly well lol

We call the whole panty area our bottom. That seems to work for us. It's not a baby name, and it covers "touching" conversations. Toddler girls seem to get lots of irritations when they are being potty trained, and I wanted to use a word that wasn't shocking in public. I think baby names seem to make children think there is something bad or funny about the area. I have also heard someone teach their child to call their bottom their "kitten". Dear God, please avoid that one.

i taught mine the real name plus one they could pronounce. "thats your vagina /coochie. " worked well thru 3 girls - got to the 4th and at age 6 in kindergarten while doing abc lesson she got the V and stood up and proclaimed "V is for vagina , its my coochie" so take it from an old (49) mama : becareful what you teach your kids :) it may come back to haunt you. rofl.

You need to teach them the proper name - they have a vagina and a vulva. Don't go with cutesy names...
