I have just applied for individual healthcare in the state of Ohio. I applied as a smoker. I am quitting smoking tomorrow. How long will it be before I can expect my rates to be adjusted to non-smoker rates?

It depends on the company.

Since quitting smoking is not exactly easy for the insurer to verify since it depends pretty much solely on your word for it and since you have a vested financial interest in getting lower insurance rates and since smoking is notoriously hard to quit....please don't be surprised if it takes a while for you to be smoke free before they'll put you in a more preferred risk.

Some companies, if they want your premiums, may be more willing to believe you earlier on.
