TO ALL PARENTS
"I'll lend you, for a little while,
a child of mine,"He said
"For you to love while he lives
and mourn when he is dead.
It may be six or seven
years, or twenty-two or three, but will you
till I call him back,
take care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you
and shall his stay be brief,
you'll have his lovely memories
as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
as all from earth return
but there are lessons taught down there
that I want this child to learn.
I've looked the wide world over
in my search for teachers true,
and from the throngs that crown life's lanes,
I have selected YOU.
Now will you give him all your love
-not think the labor vain
nor hate me when I come to call
to take him back again."
I fancied that I heard them say
"Dear Lord, Thy will be done.
For all the joys thy child will bring
The risk of grief we'll run.
We will shelter him with tenderness,
We'll love him while we may---
And for the happiness we've known
Forever grateful stay.
But should the angels call for him
Much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes
And try to understand."

What a sad, sad yet amazing poem. It made me cry, mainly because I lost my baby just a few months ago. He was a dog, but still my baby and my best friend..

Thank you for sharing this poem with me and everyone else.

It is beautiful. I think it would help alot of people. I hope things are getting easier for you. I hope to never have to experiance a loss of that kind. But know one knows what the future will bring. Thats why you should live everyday as you last.

back, you're only way too humorous. With the twist on the tip. Disagree with above poster - which you shouldn't fool the reader. even though, I do urge you to recycle the dentist poem beginning up and proceed that topic from the beginning up with out twist on the tip - it could be efficient. Congrats on point 6 and popping the question that grew to become into pulled!

This poem helped me a great deal...a friend gave it to me after the death of my 7 month old son. I even had it engraved on his headstone so that I will never forget it.

thanks it does help. i lost my daughter when she was 3 months old and in january it will be three years. as everyday passes i miss her more and more but will never forget her. she was a twin so it is a little easier but harder to deal with at the same time. I see her so much in her sister and wish she was still here. thanks again.
