But do it politely.
"I'm sure Jessie is fine, but I am Kate. I will let Jessie know when I see her."

First of all, a person in their 50's is far from old.
You should have corrected him the first time. Next time you see him, take him aside and tell him your name is not Jessie, it's Kate.

it's not rude to correct someone if it bothers you that they made a mistake. it was rude of the man to get your name wrong in the first place, so you should just tell him gently that jessie is not your name. if he keeps calling you jessie, he might just have a memory problem, and jessie is the name he automatically linked to you.

I would have told him that I was not Jessie ---due to his strange behavior I probably would not have told him my name was Kate and if I knew anyone named Jessie who could be the person he was actually mistaking you for, I'd warn her that this strange person was looking for her. He doesn't sound like he's all there.

IN THIS CASE, THE NICE MAN WILL HAVE HIS FEELINGS HURT LATER ON IF HE IS SOME ONE THAT YOU WILL SEE FAIRLY OFTEN. IF YOUR NAME SOUNDS ANYTHING LIKE JESSIE, YOU COULD SAY THAT PEOPLE CALL YOU THAT ALL THE TIME!! OR YOU COULD TELL HIM THAT YOU HAVE DECIDED TO GO BY YOUR MIDDLE NAME RATHER THAN YOUR FIRST NAME BECAUSE THERE USED TO BE A JESSIE AND IT WAS CONFUSING EVERYBODY. THEN TELL HIM YOUR NAME, YOU KNOW, THE REAL ONE. THERE'S ALWAYS THE COME CLEAN APPROACH. IT IS A PAIN, BUT I HAD TO DO IT. A MAN COMING IN OUR STORE KEPT TRYING TO THINK OF MY NAME. i SAID "JEANNIE", HE SAID "HUH?', THIS WENT BACK AND FORTH FOR SEVERAL MINUTES, FINALLY THE LAST TIME HE ASKED, I SAID "I'M LISA!' HE SAID "HEY LISA, I THOUGHT THAT WAS YOU!!" THEN ANOTHER EMPLOYEE CALLED ME JEANNIE RIGHT WHILE I WAS TALKING TO HIM. HE SAID "I THOUGHT YOU WERE LISA!" I SAID, "I KNOW YOU DID, BUT MAINLY I GO BY JEANNIE. I THOUGHT YOU MIGHT LIKE HER BETTER!"
WE LAUGHED. HE WAS OKAY. I ONLY CORRECTED HIM BECAUSE I WAS CORNERED.

Yes..it is rude to yourself not to tell him. You are a person too...and it is just a slight misunderstanding on his part..it seems lazy and rude to not correct him and have him calling you by the rong name all the time. i dont want to sound harsh cause sometimes I dont correct people when they say my name rong which happens so often its unbelivable other people will say my name and i got tired of that so I now think its the right thing to assertively correct them, and if they dont like it to damn bad..its not rude if you say it in the right way, and you sound sweet enough that you wouldnt say it rudely.

I don't think its rude. I would rather someone tell me that I'm saying their name wrong then to walk around saying it wrong. I can't stand when people don't say anything then when you find out that you were calling them by the wrong name, its like dang you should of told me.

It is impolite to use the wrong name when talking to another person, so nicely correct him. From your question I perceive that this may be part of his strange humor and he may be doing it on purpose and to get your attention. Good Luck.

I would do it politely, he might just be a bit forgetful. I will usually try to correct people if they get my name wrong and I'll be in contact with them a fair bit.

It's not rude to correct someone when they get your name wrong. (If anything, it's rude for them to get your name wrong.)
Rule of thumb: If you are never going to see the person again, it's not necessary to embarrass them by calling them on getting your name wrong. If you will be seeing more of them, it's more embarrassing to them to continually get your name wrong, so let 'em know right away.
