At least you recognize that you do it. Congrats on that =) My Aunty is a mumbler and a low talker and instead of saying "what did you say" 50 million times, I just listen extremely hard so that I can catch a few words and form a sentence. It's kind of a game I invented. Anyway, the next time someone asks you to repeat what you said ask them why and you can pinpoint exactly what the problem is. Good luck!

This will sound crazy, I know, but it really works for kids with some speech impediments and works wonders for improving diction:

Practice speaking or reading with a pen in your mouth. Bite down on a pen or pencil with your back teeth, or as close to your back teeth as you can, having it go across your mouth so you are biting it with both sides of your jaw. Do that for a while and see how well you speak.

If you think it may be your volume, try speaking loud for a while. If you consciously speak loud for a while, you will eventually speak louder all the time. I had to do that because I was a low talker and it didn't work well for being a teacher.

Good luck!

I have the same problem. People are always making fun at me because I am mumbling. I swear its as clear as day for me but noone else understands what I am saying. I can't help that my mind works faster than my mouth! They should just catch up.

It seems you are unclear as to why peole ask you to repeat yourself. That is your first task, ask people why they ask you to repeat yourself, then you'll know what you need to work on. If it is speaking too quickly, then conciously try to speak more slowly, you mumble, then try to enunciate while speaking a bit louder. Good Luck.

ask a close friend to pay attention to what you're doing and find out if you really are mumbling or if it's something else....if you're mumbling, you probably lack confidence in social situations....

For me it is that I talk to fast and it is taken as mumbbling. Try and slow down and pronounce your word correctly. I find that has helped me out a great deal.

Too slow ? usually they just tell you to speed it up
Too fast, they will tell you to chill or slow down
Mumbling, most likely . . . but tape record yourself to be sure.
Once you hear yourself speaking, you should be able to identify the issue.
