Yes, when the answer is one, you only use "es" such as in: 1+1 es uno(one), 2-1 es uno, or 1x1 es uno.

Yes, you also only use "es" when the answer is zero such as in: 1x0 es zero, 1-1 es zero or 0+0 es zero.

When the answer is more than one, then you use "son" such as in: 2+2 son cuatro, 6-1 son cinco, or 3x2 son seis.
If you are not sure, you should use "es igual a" since it works with any type of answer whether is zero, one, or more than one.

Si! when is more than one is son like: dos mas dos son dos, uno mas uno es uno. @ dividido en dos son dos, uno dividido en uno es uno, multiplicado por uno es uno, multiplicado por dos son dos....etc.
