easier to work on, get parts, good gas mileage, seems to hold up well

Dont think twice about the Kia. It sucks. In fact, never consider a Kia. Kia cars, old or new are just plain garbage.
Out of those, I think you should get the Saturn.

My answer in line:
1. Kia Sephia 2000
2. Saturn SL1 2001
3. Ford Escort 2000(Really a crap)
If I were you will not buy any of these. Go for Honda or Toyota. Upfront you pay little bit more but in the longer run you are buying a quality car with lots of peace of mind.Less maintainance and more relaiability with genuine pleasure of driving.Think about it.

Saturn is better, then ford then Kia, but it depends on ur preferences. Service, safety Saturn is better. Ford Engines don't give good service after several years.

Kia = crap
Escort is a Mazda with a Ford sticker on it (pretty OK for an econo-box).
Saturn is very uninspired and dull but actually pretty reliable, (crap for resale, though)
Now are you totally confused?

ignore the ford
both saturn and kia are built using a complete JIT program.
saturn is newer and built in america so i would go there.
reading the other answers show consumer prejudices.
i base my opinnions on having a degree in manufacturing operations.
