don't listen to that other know-it-all, generals can most def quit... but they don't call it 'quitting', they call it 'resigning' -
but I have to admit that the douche was on the right track b/c generals usually can just 'retire' b/c they have been in service often way more than their required 20 yrs for retirement...
as to how many left service? a lot, at least 1 every few months - it was pretty bad for while and you just have to get a bad feeling about a war when the freakin generals don't even believe in it!!

Generals do not quit the service. After 25+ years of service, they retire.

US Generals wouldn't quit...they would put in for retirement. If you quit the military with 20+ years you lose your retirements and other benefits.
You don't get to the rank of General Officer by being stupid.

First of all FOREX hit the head on the nail (good job). Many have "retired", some have done it quietly, some have not... This is what happens when you get a Sec of Defense that has a 'my way or the highway' attitude. You wont be able to get an exact number from sources, because many general officers have left ' quietly' in a true patriot sense. I would venture to say it is in the dozens.

I'm pretty sure all the Iraqi generals quit as soon as the first bombs fell.

Most retired because they were going to retire any way, but there were a large minority that retired because they refused to be a 'yes man' and blindly follow the Bush strategy and policy for the war.

All you need is to lose one good one. Best military machine in history ruined by a politician who thought it was OK to shoot looters. GUDERIAN ring any bells? Hitler fired every smart guy he could. So did Stalin.
You start shooting thieves and don't forget yourself then all the military tech fails.
