The price of Plasma and LCD flat screen tvs WILL come down. The price of new technology ALWAYS does. For example, think back to how expensive CD and DVD players/recorders were when they were 1st sold. Now think of how inexpensive they are now! As for WHEN they'll come down...this will happen when a company releases the "next big thing" to entice people to part with their money!
BTW..Curry's are currently advertising a 21 in LCD HD ready TV for under £300..before this year's World Cup they were double the price!

Just read an article about this that was rather technical, by the body that creates the technology standards... the short version of it is this: expect plasma to come down SOME, expect LCD to come down quite a bit over the long haul. LCD screens last longer (hot gases in plasma screens have been observed to reduce brightness by at much as 15% just four weeks after purchase). Expect LCD to come down even more when next generation of display technology (OLED, organic LED) comes out.
But I am not an expert on this -- just happened to read an article, and I don't know WHEN prices will come down, sorry.

They are coming down in price rapidly, in some respects! I just bought a 37" LCD for £800, it would have cost well over £1000 the previous year. There are now many more companies producing them. The usual market leaders (Sony, LG, Samsung Etc) prices are only coming down gradually, but there are now brands like Tevion, Vestax Etc. that aim more towards the budget-conscious, Aka the majority of the public. Most people will brand these as 'cheaper' and 'nastier', but most of these TVs come from the same production lines. Go for a cheaper brand is my advice.

lcds and plasmas will come down in price as technology changes.
for example if you wanted a a lcd tv without hd it would be a lot cheaper.if you look in the shops now you will be amazed at the difference in prices of the same tv.
i just bought a new lcd tv and i saved £320 by looking around.
i finally got it from currys website which was £108 cheaper than there shop price.

it's the whole thing with demand, i remember a couple of years ago a 15" lcd monitor would have set someone back around £/$2/300 now you can pick one up for £/$80 brand new if you look in the right places plasma t'vs are not the ideal since their basically like a giant motor minus the cumbersome tank in the back but indeed their coming down slowly i'd reckon that within the next year you'll see them all drop quite dramtically. the reason LCD t'vs are so expensive is that the either come with h'd or a built in free view tuner otherwise their just Your average VGA monitor with a different input/output. i would happily say that i'd be able to pick up a fairly decent size LCD in the next year say 27" for around £200 ($400) if demand holds up

Thay have come down in price but new things have been added to them like HDTV and Freeview also the sizes have got bigger.
what will happen is that once the sales of these products slow the dealers will drop the prices.
Its the same as all tech once the market slows for the products or the so called keeper makes come on the market this will force the prices down.

Yes ofcourse they will come down, and they are heading that way already, at my wildest guess I would say an LCD tv will be available for the same or cheaper price of a bulky eqavilant tv by mid 2007

They have come down a bit but beware I think they are an interim before the next generation of super TVs try and find out what is in the pipeline with technology before you buy

i sell both. they have come down a ton . the first plasma we got was 10,000$ now you can get one for as little as 1,200$. the prices are droping rapidly because the technology keeps getting updated. the next standard you'll see will be 1440p. quad HD then quad full HD. also if you are a gamer like me get an lcd. a plasma will get burn in with games. epect a firmware update on the ps3 to run at 1440p.
