Is the DVD a prerecorded DVD , or one that you or a friend recorded?
My guess is that a recorded DVD, and that the format is not compatible with your DVD player, so there is nothing you can do.

the movie might be foreign one.

Each DVD has a region code, if the region is not Region 1 (if you buy the player in US/Canada) then the DVD player will refuse to play that DVD

This is why I do not recommend combo units. Just goto walmart and buy a 29 dollar dvd player and forget the other one. Or take your TV into be serviced.

I'm sorry to say but it needs to be taken in for repairs. Unfortunately, the convenience of a combined component suffers the downtime of multiple component loss because one or more in the system needs repair and you loose it all for that one component.

For future reference, get discreet components and you will be able to use the components that are not problematic while the components that need servicing are repaired.
