I have a GT Bike it is a VERTIGO but dont know what year it is... Do the rims that come with the bike really matter or can I get any other rims and have the same preformance...do I need to buy parts?

No you don't need the rims the bike was originally speced with you can use any 20" bmx wheel the type of rim you buy will depend on the type of riding you do......

rims that come stock on any bike are typically not as strong as a after market rims....depending on what you like to ride(DJ, Trail,street) that is a big factor in picking a new rim. the other factor is your hub, your spoke count has to match that of your hub

well, it all depends on your performance, if you would want more better performance , you got to buy a new set of wheels, cause OEM from the factory is usually substandard and its not all that well, unless you are talking about top of the line GT bikes.

So it all depends on you, if you want another wheelset or stick with the OEMS and save money ! Cheers
