First Irish coffee is strong black coffee with a shot of Irish whiskey, a little sugar and topped with whipped cream. There really isn't a difference between a bar and a pub. Places where you could get a drink hundreds of years ago, were called "pubs" (probably from the English). They also served food. Today "pub" is used as it sounds more ethnic and upscale. "Bar" has a toddy sound associated with the lower levels of society. "Pub" sounds more respectable. In the U.S. pubs and bars can serve beer, spirits and food, but what they can serve varies from state to state and even by communities and counties within a state.
A real Irish pub/bar, has all the flavor of one in Ireland, complete with flags, soccer memorabilia, Guinness draught on tap and maybe a few more fights You will find them in the larger cities like New York, San Francisco, Boston, where ever a large Irish population is present.
