If your account has overdraft protection or an overdraft line of credit, you would still be able to withdraw money from the ATM. If you have a savings account at the same bank, your accounts could also be linked to automatically transfer money from your savings account to your checking account when you have insufficient funds in your checking account. Your bank would probably charge you a fee for overdraft protection or an overdraft line of credit, but the automatic transfer is usually free. Check with your bank to see how your account is set up, and how much you have to pay when your account becomes overdrawn.

I don't know why that it is, but I had the same exact problem.
I go through Bank of America, got a visa check card, and I thought you could only withdrawl what you had in the bank. Now I'm stuck with $40.00 in overdraft fees.

You may have overdraft protection or the amount of money withdrawn will go into a credit account that you will have to pay back or maybe you are not balancing the account correctly.

You need to check your account. You will get bombed with overdraft fees unless you have overdraft protection, which you probably don't because if you did you would know it.Be careful, those fees can add up very quickly.

They're probably zapping you with overdraft charges. It could be very expensive.
I suggest Monday morning you run to the bank and replenish your account to have a positive balance and you may be able to avoid a lot of charges.

MOST BANKS WILL GIVE YOU EMERGENCY ATM WITH DRAWLS UP TO A CERTAIN AMOUNT. IT WILL OVERDRAW YOUR ACCOUNT AND YOU WILL PAY OVERDRAFT FEES. THESE FUNDS ARE PRIMARILY THERE FOR EMERGENCIES ONLY (IE..YOUR CAR BREAKS DOWN, MAJOR PLUMBING ISSUES, ETC.) YOU CAN GO TO YOUR BANK AND HAVE THAT REMOVED FROM YOUR ACCOUNT.
