he growls all the time at the other dogs. we have used a shock collar as well as spanking him. please help

frist dont use the shock coller they cost alote and they dont work!(and they are cruel)
i have a samll Pekingese and he use to be the same way.After i nueated him, he stoped his agression towards other dogs! we are able now to take him to the park, before we had trouble everytime he spoted a dog around the coner!

dont use a shock collar or spank him for growling at other dogs. He is trying to let the other dogs know that he is not so small and he may be trying to let them know that he will protect you. Be nice to him and tell him it is ok and sooth him by petting him. Sounds weird but it works. My little dog wouldnt stop barking at everyone, and i always yelled at her to stop. Then I started telling her she was a good dog when she barked and she stopped immediately.

how old is he and have you socialized him well? If he is really young he is probablly trying to play with the other dogs, if not you should take him to an obediance class. Look at your dogs body language to see if he is acting aggressively or not. Many times dogs will growl to get the attention of another dog to play with them. A growl doesn't always mean aggression, however it can and that is a serious problem.

he needs to be properly socialized - a crutial step often over looked by owenrs of small breed dogs...
take him for Obedience lessons so he can be socialized.. and so you can learn how to disapline and reward him correctly
obviously you are not doing it right if you are spanking or useing the shock collars (which are generally frowned on now a days by most dog people)
if he isnt neutered that might be part of the problem

Get a personal trainer for your small dog. It is not very expensive, and well worth it. Try Men's Best Friend.

ask a trainer at petsmart or something, probably glad to help. believe me though its not that bad of a thing. my small dog barks at paper towels and hair ties. who knew?
