Do you think Abraham was right for being ready to sacrifice his son or do you think he should have told God something like "Sorry, but I can't commit murder of an innocent child."

It wasn't about murder. There was a question in Abraham's mind as to whether he loved God more than Isaac or not. This was God's way of showing him the answer. Also, Abraham was convinced that if he obeyed God, Isaac would either be resurrected on the spot, or replaced with someone 'better'. He already had God's Promise that he would be the father of many nations.

He was very right in showing God that he loved him and trusted him all the way, even the death of his own son. But God didn't make Abraham go through with it, because Abraham proved his loyalty. On the other hand you can see what God actually did do, he sent his own Son down and watched him be mocked, beaten and crucified. So God knew how Abraham was feeling at that moment.

Notice ,God had already told Abraham about Isaac,"I will make him a great nation".So Abraham was believing that totally when they went up.He told his servants "Stay here the lad and I ,WE will be back".(not I will be back).Abraham knew whatever happened up there,God was still going to make Isaac a great nation.Later the Bible says,"Abraham believed God,and it was counted to him as righteousness".
Remember, when they were up there,Isaac said "Father here is the wood and the fire ,but where is the sacrifice?" to which Abraham said,"God himself will supply the lamb". After the angel stopped him, they saw a ram caught in the thicket and sacrificed him.
But the amazing thing is,God had told Abe to take his son,his ONLY son.sound familiar?Later Abraham says God will provide a lamb, yet there was a ram.Well,2000 years after Abraham and Isaac,God did provide a lamb,His ONLY son,and ...on the very same hill,Mt. Moriah which is Calvary hill to the Romans.

Really close friends can really trust each other. I suspect Abraham wanted to know God better, (just like Moses did when he said, "Show my Your glory!"), he understood God was going to make a sacrifice (Genesis 3:15 foretold the cross), and so God gave him an unforgettable "reality" experience. Jesus said, "Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day [God's heartrending gift of His Son]: and he saw it, and was glad." (John 8:56)

It seems obvious that at that time, early in the Earth's history, and that with Abraham's absolute certainty that God had promised him descendants (heirs) through Isaac and believing that God could raise Isaac from the dead if need be in order to keep His covenant promise, AT THAT TIME Abraham was right.

HOWEVER. for anyone in this day and age to think they were being "tested by God" in a similar way, should NOT attempt such!!!

Abraham didn't believe God was going to make him sacrifice his son as he told his servants wait here we will be back.

Abraham was obedient to God, and it gives us a great picture of what God was going to do later.

He was wrong. In the most absolute sense of the word. He had no knowledge that God would stay his hand at the last second, yet he felt absolutely no compunction to stop until he was told to by God. What kind of sick freak is willing to kill his own son because of some disembodied voice? Son of Sam that's who!

All you religious screw-heads think about what you're saying when you say he was right. What you're saying is that you would do whatever a disembodied voice claiming to be God told you to do. Even kill your own child! Now do you see why we atheists think you're dangerous, irrational morons who have serious brain deficiencies?

/end rant.

He should told God sorry and if God insisted then he should offer him self not his child as the child's has a mother to and she would not agree. God also is wrong as he should have consulted this matter with the mother to.

What do YOU think? God spared Isaac because of Abraham's faithfulness and made him the father of many nations. I would say Abraham made the RIGHT choice to listen and obey God. Wouldn't you?
