Outside of NYC, I'd say Niagara Falls, the Finger Lakes, Lakes Ontario, Erie, & Champlain, Cooperstown & the Baseball Hall of Fame, the Adirondack Mountains, Hudson River, Saratoga Springs, the Erie Canal, apples, dairy cows, glass manufacture (Corning), the Iroquois League, Woodstock, Washington Irving, James Fenimore Cooper, the beaches of Long Island, and some beautiful scenery.

Across from the pet store handing out food and supplies, next to the free vet clinic. Seriously, no dog is EVER going to be free. Period. Closest you can get is low cost, adopting from a shelter. That doesn't take care of anything else though. What about supplies? Food? Prevention medications? Vet care? Grooming? Boarding? Emergencies? If you find one by chance, it'll come with a multitude of health and/or behavioral problems that will cost thousands to treat. If it can be treated. No money, no dog. Simple. If a newspaper dog is "too expensive" then you'll find general care for a dog "too expensive." I spend close to $100 a month on my 18 pound dog. And i spent over $3,000 over her lifetime for routine vet care (not including emergencies, which we haven't had thank god) and she's only three years old. Emergencies can run into the thousands easily enough.

The City.The Yankees. 9/11 , Statue of Liberty, Little Italy , Chinatown. Broadway , Empire state building Madison Square Garden, Museums. As far as a state it is liberal, has good apples and has all four seasons. It is also considered expensive to live in.
